Big Favor for Jack Morgan

Would you Tumblrs and FBrs (and other friends and followers) do me a really quick/important favor please?

I want a job with Power Monitors, Inc. as their social media expert. I’m very qualified. I want to show them that I can get some likes on their fb page even before they’re paying me because I’m a social media ninja. They make devices to help people monitor their power use in their homes and buildings. I like that. It’s green.

Anyway, here’s their FB page. There’s nothing on it. I don’t even know why they started it without putting any content on it. Maybe even leave a comment like, “Thanks for introducing me to this company, Jack!” That would be cool.

Reblogging this message would be really cool, too.

Thanks.

People keep leaving sunglasses at the office.

If these look like your sunglasses, contact the American Shakespeare
Center right away.

Lately. Happy to Report

Lately, I've been looking for houses and jobs and helping move a restaurant and plan a wedding.

The wedding is on June 26th, and the engagement party is this weekend. Luckily, my fiance is a master at planning these types of events, so I'm not actually doing much more than designing invitations and helping register and things like that. It's going to be a totally vegan wedding party on a field that's part of a cattle farm. We're hoping to share the space with some fireflies, and we'll have one of the oldest carousels in operation running next to the stage, which will feature the talents of some very good musicians. The vegan component ensures everyone that they will not get food poisoning at an outdoor wedding in the middle of the summer. It also makes our first day together as husband and wife cruelty free, and I like the symbolism of that.

The Darjeeling Café move was written up on the front page of the Staunton News Leader. My fiance looked very pretty in the picture. We're really excited about the move. We're waiting to really go full-steam ahead on it, but when we do, expect downtown Staunton to be a little more awesome than it already is. The community is really behind us, so we're touched. This town has a lot in it to love.

I've officially given notice at the American Shakespeare Center. I'm going to miss it, but I'm trying to start something that resembles a young family, so it's time to stop working for non-profits, and I'd like a job that offers a little more to learn and grow. It was an extremely difficult decision... but timing is everything. The café needs help, and I'm hoping to work on building that while looking for a new position at a for-profit business.

Yesterday, we found a house that really fits us. I don't want to fall in love too quickly with it because real estate games can be heart-breaking, but it's pretty fantastic. It's a small house on a big lot, and it's walking distance to the café. Mary and I are quite excited about it and everything else.

All good things for now! Happy to report.

Survival of the Dead and Where I Can't Go :(

George A. Romero is doing a Q&A at BAM, and I wish I could go. I hate that things like this are so far away from me these days. I'm really kind of heart broken that I can't go to this. I would trade in all the concerts I've ever been to to go to this.

Floor Plan of the New Darjeeling Café

The Darjeeling Café is moving, in case you haven't heard. It's going to be bigger, better, and cozier than ever before. You are going to love it more than you have ever loved anything. You need a café to call your own, after all.
These are the preliminary floor plans, how we're laying out the space. Get ready for a full kitchen, people. It's going to be the best food you've ever put past your lips!

I made these at floorplanner.com if you're interested. It's a really good tool.

Darjeeling QR for the Window Display

So it's CMYK, which might look lame on the monitor since I didn't convert properly. I just wanted to get it up before I got it printed and in the window of the new location of the Darjeeling Café. If only one person knows what the hell a QR code is, this will be worth it. I worked a long time on it.

QR-OK

I've been writing poetry again. Sort of. I think you could call me an experimental poet again if you wanted to. You need a QR scanner to read this one.

preliminary QR hacks

These are experiments in QR Codes. At the moment they bring you to a dummy page that I'd like to make a reality eventually.
I think they can be an incredible new way to engage audiences. I see nothing but potential in this technology.
Imagine a world in which you can engage the companies you like on your own terms. A lot of people are afraid of privacy, but I think that this gets around that issue nicely. You actually invite more content by scanning the code. Thus, you only get the advertisement that you really want.

But speaking of privacy, wouldn't it be great to only be advertised things you might really want? I feel like the filter on my brain doesn't need to be as active if advertisers already know to not bother with pitching stuff to me I won't ever want or need. The question "what can they do with all that information they have about us?" always comes up when talking about the future of media, but I have to counter it with, "what would they want to do with it?" The only thing that makes sense is to sell us stuff. . . which is exactly what businesses have always been doing. Now they can more accurately target us. Targeting is a good thing. It keeps you from having to deal with Viagra and Lipitor commercials when you're 15 and from dealing with World of Warcraft ads when you're 72.

Anyway, aren't QR codes cool?

A Song about the Staunton Police Department

I wrote this song about the Staunton Police Department. It's called Staunton PD. I recorded it with one mic into my old laptop. It's dedicated to David Fritz at the Staunton News Leader and Jim McCloskey.

Crosskeys Vineyard

I'm not sure if you can see how beautiful the Blue Ridge range is here
since I can't see the pic in this light on my iPhone. Stunning. Good
chardonnay. Wonderful port.
